مخاطر مضاعفات مرض السكري بنوعيه الأول والثاني كبيرة، من خلال تأثيره على وظائف وعمل الأعضاء وخاصة الكبد والعين. لكن دراسة حديثة اكتشفت خطرا آخر لمرض السكري ولاسيما النوع الأول، وهو التعرض لكسور العظام.
